Winter 2020 Budget = $500

$500 (quarterly budget) = $874.50 ($520 December + $237.50 January + $117 February) - $147 in Madewell gift cards - $70 Everlane credit - $157.50 earned from Poshmark sales

I kicked off 2020 with a variety of coziness in the form of sweaters, sweatshirts, and sweatpants and another maxed out quarterly budget. The end-of-year sales get me every year, so that’s something I need to keep in mind going forward. My purchases this past quarter were focused mostly on more cool weather items, but I also added a number of accessories that can be worn year-round and a pair of rain boots that I assume will get plenty of wear this spring. Even though I’ve been doing my fair share of browsing, I haven’t found much in the way of true spring/summer items that are really speaking to me except for the pair of light wash jeans I bought!

What I kept:

  • Everlane texture cotton crew sweater: I have a soft spot for ivory sweaters and decided to pick up this cotton sweater in the Choose What You Pay Sale (it’s still available in all sizes). I opted for a size small. The sweater is a good weight and will work well as a three-season sweater.

  • Everlane lightweight French terry shrunken hoodie: I own this hoodie in bone, size XS, and picked up the heather grey in small when it went on sale. It’s a great basic sweatshirt, and the small fits better overall (it accounted for a little bit of shrinkage after being washed and dried).

  • Everlane ReNew fleece sweatpants: Since I own the matching sweatshirt, why not buy the sweatpants for the complete look?! Haha! I ordered size XS, and they fit comfortably loose but would recommend sizing down if you’re in between sizes. I wear these sweatpants almost every day after work (I alternate with my cashmere sweatpants).

  • Everlane cashmere scarf: Can’t go wrong with a classic cashmere scarf! All of the colors are gorgeous, but I’m boring and went with black since it’s so versatile.

  • Everlane cashmere crew (via Poshmark): I own this sweater in three other colors and purchased this one off of Poshmark in royal blue (size small) to wear primarily for Boise State-related events like gymnastics meets, football games, softball games, etc. Unfortunately, the seller didn’t disclose that it has a small hole near one armpit, but lucky for them I was too lazy to request a return; it’s really not that noticeable unless I lift my arms up, haha.

  • Madewell travel buddy packable puffer: My plan was to wear this navy puffy to BSU sporting events as well, even though it’s not quite the right color blue (and Korri reminds me every time). It’s a thin but relatively warm puffer coat. I took a size small to allow for layering and for shoulder mobility. I haven’t tried to roll it up into a pillow, but that’s a fun feature, especially if you are traveling to a warm weather destination from cold weather or vice versa!

  • Madewell 10” high-rise skinny jeans in Wheeler wash: I used a gift card to purchase these in the recent Insiders Event sale. After parting with my old pair of light wash skinny jeans a couple of years ago, I was itching to add a new pair with a high rise. I ordered this pair in my usual size 25 but oddly enough, they were way too tight everywhere, so I exchanged them for a 26. They fit much better in the waist but are still slightly snug on the legs, which is an odd problem for me since I’m not built particularly athletic. I’ve been wearing them around the house and they have loosened up a bit, thankfully!

  • Madewell bow scrunchie: I impulse bought this grey striped scrunchie with my skinny jeans. I definitely wore scrunchies as a kid, so it’s weird to see them come back in style, but I figured I’d try it again since the sale price was reasonable! I think it looks cute over a bun, but I can’t decide if the bow is too young for me? Am I getting old?

  • Aquatalia Tilly weatherproof booties: These are dream boots! I had my eyes on them since I saw them in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and finally pulled the trigger when they dropped to 60% off. My original plan was to order them in grey, but the chocolate goes with more of the bottoms in my closet. They fit TTS for me; I was worried about them being too narrow but I haven’t had that problem at all and my feet are slightly wider than average. I absolutely love these.

  • Marine Layer double knit henley: I love Marine Layer’s double knit tops; I own a few raglan tops to sleep in and bought the henley, not knowing if it would be loungewear only or worn “IRL”. I’m happy to report that I’ve worn it out in regular outfits a couple of times now! It’s so comfy, and I love the burgundy stripes. As with my other Marine Layer tops, size small fits me best.

  • Le Specs Air Heart sunglasses (via Poshmark): The tortoise version of these sunglasses are my favorite, so when I found the black colorway on Poshmark, I scooped them up. The seller didn’t disclose some scratches on the rim (sigh), but again…they’re not noticeable.

  • J.Crew ribbed beanie with faux fur pom-pom: I love this beanie in black so much that I picked up a second one in ivory! I already had an ivory beanie, but it doesn’t fit my head quite like I wish it did so I am glad I have this one. I wore it a lot this past winter.

  • Sperry Saltwater rain boots: On multiple occasions, I found myself wishing that I had black rain boots, so I bought these when I found them on sale at Nordstrom. They fit TTS! I am quite pleased with this purchase and hope I’ll get a lot of wear out of them.

  • AUrate short beam hoops (c/o): As part of another collaboration with Nakturnal earlier this year, I received AUrate credit and used it to purchase these gorgeous pair of hoops. I love them so much, and like my first pair of AUrate earrings, these feel high quality.

  • AUrate bold ear cuff (c/o): I also selected this simple ear cuff as part of my collaboration with Nakturnal. It’s a different style for me but it makes me feel edgy when I wear it, haha. I do wish my ear was shaped such that I could wear it on the side of my ear; I have to wear it on top!

  • Marine Layer grey striped long-sleeve tee (via Poshmark): No photo of this one since I couldn’t find a stock photo and was too lazy to take one myself. It’s a pretty basic dark grey tee with thin white stripes. I haven’t worn it yet in a regular outfit, so this may end up becoming solely a part of my loungewear, but I figured I’d include it here just in case! The size small fits perfectly, and I almost wish I had found it in a medium for a more relaxed feel.

What I tried and returned:

  • Anthropologie Natasha faux fur jacket: As I mentioned in my fall budget recap, I purchased this jacket in the carbon color, size small petite. OMG—I think this is the softest thing I’ve ever put on my body. It’s sooo soft! Sadly, I should not have ordered petite because it was just a touch too tight in my shoulders, and it never came back in stock in a regular small to reorder. Oh well.

  • Madewell crewneck bodysuit in black: I own this in grey in size XS and ordered it in black in a size small. The small fit much more comfortably, but the bodysuit came with a pull in the fabric on the front of it, so I sadly returned it. I will probably try reordering it at some point…

  • Everlane authentic stretch high-rise skinny button fly in vintage mid blue: I own these jeans in washed black and ordered the vintage mid blue when the ankle-length style came back in stock, but the size 26 I ordered fit oddly (that’s the size I took in the washed black). They fit well on my legs but loose in the waist, and I expect them to stretch out a little bit with wear. I really like this style, so I will probably reorder them in a size 25 and hope that the legs aren’t too snug.

What’s on deck for spring:

  • ABLE Scilia block heel: I will be a bridesmaid in a friend’s wedding this spring, and after looking at my current shoe options, I wasn’t sure if any of them would work…so I ordered these heeled sandals in “sand napa” with a coupon code. I love the minimal strap style and low block heel! Fingers crossed they fit and are comfortable.

  • Nisolo Rosa pouch: I actually included this pouch in my “what’s on deck for winter” list in my fall budget recap but never ordered it. Now, the nutmeg suede and black leather colors are on sale, and I think I may just go for it!
