It’s my final winter outfit—woohoo! I’m so excited for warmer temperatures and spring outfits. Now that I said that, I’m sure it’ll snow again once or twice…LOL. We do have 60 (!) degrees in our long-range forecast and I’m really hoping it sticks around. I’m ready for sunshine and warmth. I’m also very excited that we are now in Daylight Saving Time. I’m definitely team DST year-round. There’s something about the extra light in the evening that makes it really feel like spring is here!

My final two winter outfits featured mostly black, mostly because they’re easy outfits to put together and wear. I absolutely love wearing all-black outfits, but I don’t wear them very often because I live with two cats and their hair is absolutely everywhere. (I learned that it’s best to shoot black outfits with the sun behind me, and the high contrast helps to conceal those stray cat hairs!) I added the striped silk shell under the cropped sweater to prevent the sweater from blending into the jeans, and my shiny oxfords added an extra textural element. I haven’t worn these shoes in a few months and I had forgotten how much I adore them whenever I do wear them. They remain one of my best impulse purchases! ;)

I know I whined a lot about the weather last month. Much to my chagrin, we went from a relatively dry and mild January to a wet and cold February. All of the rain and snow that we got here in the valley meant heaps of snow for the mountains, so last weekend, Korri and I headed up into the central Idaho mountains to marvel at the sheer amount of snow!

We drove about an hour outside of Boise to Mores Creek Summit, which is about 13 miles north of Idaho City along Highway 21. The elevation is approximately 6,100 feet. The snow depth gradually increased as we got further into the mountains. We drove through Idaho City and there were so many piles of snow everywhere. I joked that it was difficult to see the town because of all the snow! Highway 21 is actually closed right now for avalanche control work many miles north of Mores Creek Summit; the transportation department is currently working on clearing avalanche slides, some of which are in excess of 50 feet deep on the road!

Highway 21 at Mores Creek Summit was actually closed for quite a while for snow clearing, as you can probably tell by the photos. There were about 120 inches (or 10 feet!!!) of snow on the ground at the time (the depth decreases over time due to gravity and snowmelt…and lots of other more complex processes). There were very few vehicles on the road so I was eager to shoot photos right in the road. I honestly didn’t think I’d ever shoot outfit photos in the middle of a highway, haha. It was eerily quiet with no traffic zooming by. (We did see two wild turkeys, too! I’m not sure that they were super thrilled about all the snow…)

I took our little jaunt as a final opportunity to wear a true “winter” outfit this season—complete with snow boots and a parka! It was a chilly 23°F at the summit and decreasing as the sun went down. Since we were going to be sitting in the car for the majority of the time, I wore a comfortable and casual outfit: a striped flannel shirt, stretchy skinny jeans (black this time), and my Sorel ‘Tofino’ snow boots. The stripes on the flannel shirt match the boots, which made my heart happy. I added the baseball cap to tame my wild hair, and of course, the parka to keep warm. The seat warmers in the car were the real MVPs, though, ha! ;)

March means spring is right around the corner…or at least, one can hope that spring is right around the corner! ;) Unfortunately it still feels a little bit too much like winter for my liking, but we are getting some hints of spring with more rain storms than snow storms and slightly warmer temperatures. Plus, Daylight Saving Time starts on Sunday! I’m excited about it being lighter out later in the evening (I can finally shoot outfits again after work!) but not thrilled about it being dark again when I wake up. Ah well, I definitely prefer having extra light in the evening.

I’ve been wanting all winter to pair my wide leg pants with my tall boots but didn’t get a chance to until recently. I thought it would work because the pant legs are wide enough to mask the tall boots, and the tall boots are skinny enough at the ankles to give my legs a little bit of definition. Even though it felt ever-so-slightly awkward to walk around in this look, it didn’t look awkward at all to me. Can you tell I’m wearing tall boots under these pants?

I was inspired by the earth-toned color combination of the ochre pants and chocolate brown boots to finish the look with my heathered green ribbed cashmere sweater. It’s a literal nod to the end of winter (and the brown foliage everywhere) with the hope of spring (and greenery) coming back sooner rather than later!
