I Have COVID :(

Not gonna lie, I was really hoping I’d never write this post. LOL. I know, wishful thinking. I had all of my boosters except for the most recent one, which I was planning to get in November along with the flu shot once work slowed down because the boosters always knock me out of commission for at least a day. Silly me!

Last weekend (Sunday and Monday), Korri and I were in Los Angeles, and by Wednesday evening, Korri wasn’t feeling well. He took a sick day on Thursday. I started feeling off Thursday but didn’t really feel anything significant until Thursday evening (luckily after the interview I had!). We both tested for COVID prior to my interview, and the tests came back negative. I wore a mask to my interview, and I’m glad I did because the very next day I felt worse and we both tested positive for COVID. (I did inform the panel of my positive test.)

I thought I’d document my really cute, very fashionable “COVID outfit” (what I’ve worn every day since basically Thursday) with my dirty mirror as well as my COVID symptoms. I may update this post as my symptoms persist!

My COVID Symptoms

I don’t know if this is odd or not, but I found it interesting that my COVID symptoms at the start were extremely similar to my post-vaccine and -booster immune reactions/side effects. It started with body aches and a sort of inability to regulate my body temperature (either hot or cold or both at the same time). I had a slightly elevated body temperature, but it didn’t last long…not even all of Friday, and I never needed to take anything for it. Korri had a higher fever (around 101°F) that seemed to last longer. I also had some chest congestion.

I was planning to work on Friday, but I could not focus on anything for longer than like 5 minutes, and my head started to ache in addition to the rest of my body. I spent most of the day on the couch. I napped off and on. By Friday evening, I had started coughing a little bit, and I knew that night was going to be rough because the night before was rough for Korri. I got up three times to pee, which I NEVER do. I don’t even remember drinking that much during the day. I was constantly trying to get comfortable. And I was coughing. It was rough!

By Saturday, the body and headaches started to subside, but the cough got a little worse.

The congestion also moved into my nose! So fun. I spent all day on the couch, coughing and blowing my nose. I didn’t have much energy still, but I did manage to get the dishwasher going, lol. Small victories. I showered that night and it was exhausting.

Luckily, I slept much better Saturday night and don’t remember waking up once from coughing. My cough subsided on Sunday, but when I do cough, it hurts my abs! It also hurts to sneeze. My nose became completely plugged up (and yet also runny, such a fun combo), and on Sunday afternoon I stopped being able to taste. I attributed my loss of smell/taste to the fact that my nose is completely plugged up (and I know all those things are connected), so hopefully those senses will return once the congestion goes away…

It’s very weird to eat food without being able to taste it, but also…I realized I’m willing to eat just about anything as long as the texture isn’t weird. Ha! After not having much of an appetite Friday/Saturday (survived on soup, rice, and crackers), I ate a lot more on Sunday.

Today (Monday) is day 4 from my positive test (day 0 being Thursday, day 1 being Friday), but I am still showing symptoms.

I took another test yesterday. I don’t know why I thought it would show anything other than positive, LOL, but oh well. I probably won’t test again until my symptoms are gone. I’ll be working from home and resting all week!

So anyway, it’s not a very happy Halloween around these parts…though I’m glad we didn’t have any plans for the foreseeable future. Korri did miss the last Boise State home football game (he works at all the home games), but hopefully that was the only one he’ll miss. Fingers crossed this passes sooner rather than later! 😷
