5 Recent Purchases + a Few Fall Sale Finds

5 recent purchases: Madewell swingy tee dress, Madewell shirred easy dress in woodcut flowers, curvy Roadtripper jeans in Ashmont wash, coin necklace set, Everlane ReNew teddy bomber review — Cotton Cashmere Cat Hair

Since I don’t usually share my new purchases until my end-of-season budget posts, many of the items I order sell out and it feels a little silly to rave about items that aren’t even available to purchase anymore. I thought I’d round up a few recent purchases and share them now before they’re totally sold out (but of course, one item is dangerously close)!

I recently placed a couple of orders during the Madewell Insiders Sale (20% off everything for Insiders, 25% off for Stars and Icons) and also placed an order from Everlane (my first order since January). If we’re friends on Instagram, you may have seen this round up over on stories already—I shared over six minutes of me opening up my packages and rambling about these items and then shared a quick styling session the next day. I actually recorded video!!! What are your thoughts on video? I’m definitely not the most comfortable with it (yet?) but am willing to give it a shot! Yes, I know I’m five years behind everyone else, haha.

At the end of the post, I rounded up a few fun sale finds from my favorite retailers around the internet. We’re going into a popular sale weekend, so keep your eyes peeled for good deals!

Madewell Swingy Tee Dress (size XS)

I can’t remember how I came across this dress; I feel like maybe it was a targeted ad on Facebook or Instagram, because I literally couldn’t find it on the Madewell website until I figured out the exact name and searched for it. Weird, right? Anyway, I was drawn to this dress because of its easy, swingy shape; it’s the perfect WFH dress (and would have been great to wear this summer! Alas, it won’t get as much wear now that it’s cooling down).

I purchased my “usual”/pre-pandemic size of XS because the shape is forgiving, and luckily it’s not snug on my broad shoulders! The fabric itself is majority viscose, and it’s thin but not see-through. The dress itself is a good weight, though it would still likely lift easily in a breeze. I’ll likely hold onto this on the off chance I’m still WFH next summer. It’s a great casual option!

Madewell Curvy Roadtripper Jeans in Ashmont Wash (size 26P)

The Insiders Sale was the perfect excuse to finally order a pair of Roadtripper jeans to try! I’ve heard so many good things, and as a stretchy jean enthusiast myself, I knew I had to try them at some point. The first thing I noticed when I pulled them out of the package was how soft they are. Sooo soft! They definitely don’t feel like “regular” denim, and that’s fine with me. I’m not looking to wear anything rigid anytime soon.

I ordered this style in particular because they’re curvy, which is a great style for me because it basically eliminates the waist gap (I own one other pair of curvy jeans). I also ordered the petite length because the 26” inseam is perfect ankle length on me. I opted for a size 26 (my typical Madewell pre-pandemic size is 25), and this size fits a little bit loose, even around the waist…but I’m going to wear them around a little bit before I decide if I want a size 25. Some of the reviewers said they stretched out with wear and they wished they had sized down. I don’t want them to fit too tight so we’ll see!

Madewell Coin Necklace Set

I also took the Insiders Sale as an opportunity to pick up this coin necklace set since it doesn’t typically go on sale (at least not that I’ve seen). It consists of three necklaces that can be worn together or separately. I have all three on here on their longest lengths, so you can see that they were made to be worn together! I haven’t really been wearing a lot of jewelry lately but I’m glad I have these for a little bit of variety—and I love that I basically got three necklaces in one!

Madewell Shirred Easy Dress in Woodcut Flowers (size XS)

I received a Madewell gift card for my birthday, so I impulse bought this dress on the last day of the Insiders Sale (actually the last minute of the last day!). It’s one I’ve eyed for a while; I love the black and white floral print and the simple shape. I ordered size XS, and it fits well—not tight at all anywhere, even in the shoulders—but it’s at the shortest I’d want to go…and unfortunately, a couple of reviews were posted after I ordered that said the dress shrunk after following the care instructions. Boo.

This dress is part of Madewell’s Do Well line, and it’s made of 55% viscose and 45% Lenzing Ecovero viscose (basically eco viscose). According to The Laundress, it is not recommended to wash viscose because it can shrink, as was indicated by the reviewers. I’m not going to risk shrinkage, so I’m sadly returning this dress.

Everlane ReNew teddy bomber in ochre with wide leg crop pants — Cotton Cashmere Cat Hair

Everlane ReNew Teddy Bomber (ochre, size S)

When Everlane offered free two-day shipping last week, I snapped up the ReNew teddy bomber in ochre, size small. I’m usually a size XS or small at Everlane depending on the item, and I opted for a small because my ReNew fleece raglan sweatshirt is in size small (review here), and I wanted the fit to be on the loose side. It is definitely a little oversized in the body, but I love the sleeve length. And it has pockets!!! My neck is too short for it to be comfortably zipped up all the way, but the collar lays flat when not zipped up.

Unfortunately, this item is so close to selling out (only a few XXS sizes are left in ochre and oatmeal as of now), but check back for returns! They also offered a beautiful spice color that I would have ordered if it wasn’t sold out in size small at the time. Ochre is a great teddy brown, though! I paired it with my wide leg crop pants in ochre (bottom right image above; review here) since they’re technically the same color just to see how they would look together. Too much? Or not enough? 🤣

October sale finds from J.Crew and Nordstrom / Target pumpkins / autumnal color palette — Cotton Cashmere Cat Hair

In all of my window shopping, I found that a few of my favorite retailers are running good sales ahead of Columbus Indigenous Peoples’ Day this weekend! Here are the current sales as of today, Oct. 7th, but check their sites throughout the weekend to see if any new (better) deals pop up. I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but I’ve noticed basically nonstop sales all year long. Because of that, it’s hard to know when you’re getting the “best” deal, so just keep your eyes peeled and buy when the price is right for you; if you miss a sale, there will be another one right around the corner!
