Madewell Curvy Denim Review

Recently (was it last year?), Madewell finally released “curvy” denim—made for folks with a greater waist-to-hip ratio. I never really gave them a thought because I didn’t think that style was meant for me. However, as much as I love my Madewell denim (especially the high-rise styles that are trending now and am holding onto for dear life), I always either A) have a little bit of a gap at the back of my waist OR B) the jeans fit my waist but are snug around my hips. And you may have noticed that I tend to prefer the latter option when buying jeans.

Embarrassingly, it finally dawned on me to try a pair of curvy denim. Why yes, I am 30 years old and still learning how to dress my body. LOL. I just never thought of myself as curvy, so it never occurred to me to buy a pair of jeans meant to fit someone with curves. Please tell me I’m not the only one?

Last month, I ordered the curvy high-rise skinny crop jeans in Dalstrom wash from Madewell. I picked these because I liked the wash and they were on sale, so it wasn’t as much of a financial commitment. Also, even though the petite sizes were sold out (which is what I normally buy if offered), because these are designed to be cropped, I ordered a regular length size and they fit me like full-length jeans! The ankle isn’t as tight because they are designed to be cropped, but that actually doesn’t bother me. I think that’s kind of the style now, right?

Honestly, I don’t know why I didn’t try curvy denim sooner! They fit around my hips AND they hug my waist with no gaping in the back. I historically take a size 25 in Madewell denim, but opted for a size 26 in these because I gained a little weight, and they fit well. I usually stuck with the 25s because I don’t like the feeling of a saggy butt, and these have just the slightest hint of butt sag, but that’s something only I would notice as the wearer. They definitely look like they fit just right!

If you’ve had similar denim fit issues as me and wondered if curvy denim is right for you—TRY THEM! Especially now, because the pair I’m wearing is still available in all regular sizes and they’re just less than $60 with the current promo! 😉 I definitely am not in need of more jeans right now, especially with the WFH life, but I plan to buy more curvy styles when the time comes (p.s. the widget below has all of the current curvy styles available, including my pair!).
