Everlane reviews: Cotton-linen crew, denim shorts, high-rise skinny jeans with button fly

I took a short break from ordering things from Everlane until a couple of months ago, when I picked up a new sweater for the spring and summer and another pair of authentic stretch skinny jeans. I also realized that I didn’t review the pair of denim shorts I purchased last year, and now that we’re headed into summer, I felt it was appropriate to share a review of those this time, too. For sizing reference, I am typically a size XS/0/25 at J.Crew, Madewell, LOFT, Anthropologie, Gap, and Banana Republic. I wear a size 4-6 in H&M and its sister stores (depending on the item). For stores that use juniors sizing, such as Forever 21 and ModCloth, I am usually a size small. My Uniqlo size is either XS or small (again, depending on the item). Everlane includes garment measurements for each item, which I find incredibly helpful when it comes to determining the right size to buy. Everlane The Cotton-Linen Crew sweater in sand — Cotton Cashmere Cat Hair

The Cotton-Linen Crew (sand, size XS)

I am all about lightweight sweaters that I can pull out on chilly summer evenings or to combat the unreasonably cold air that comes out of the A/C at work. This crewneck sweater immediately caught my eye, and I ordered it in sand—a perfect spring/summer neutral. (A v-neck sweater is also available.) Since the item description mentions that it has a relaxed fit, I went with a size XS. When I first tried it on, I wished I had gotten a small instead (the arms felt short), but this sweater has loosened up so I think XS ended up being the right choice. I had forgotten how much cotton-linen blends stretch out with wear, especially in the arms. The length of the sweater is shorter than usual, so keep that in mind. It’s perfect on me since I’ve found myself gravitating more towards cropped sweaters to wear with high-rise jeans and pants. The knit is loose and could potentially show a bra, so I’ve worn it with a beige tank top underneath just to be safe. I haven’t washed it yet but am hopeful that it will hold up fine.

How I wore it: with denim shorts, in a spring style sudoku

Everlane The Denim Short in vintage light blue wash — Cotton Cashmere Cat Hair

The Denim Short (vintage light blue, size 25)

I ordered these shorts when they were released last summer in a size 24 after looking at the size chart and assuming they would fit like the modern boyfriend jeans. Boy, was I wrong! I couldn’t get that size over my thighs. I returned them and reordered them in sizes 25 and 26. The size 25 fit well, so I didn’t bother trying on the 26. I wish I had tried them just to compare, but the 25 still fits me this year. (I’ve been taking size 26 in the authentic stretch jeans, for reference.) The denim is stiff and not very forgiving in the midsection, so they’re not the most comfortable to sit in for long periods of time (i.e. a road trip, which is something I tried, lol). I appreciate the longer inseam, and these shorts can be worn with or without cuffs. The hem is raw. I really like how they don’t bag out in the butt!

How I wore it: with a green top, with pink and burgundy, with a white tee

Everlane authentic stretch high-rise skinny button fly in washed black — Cotton Cashmere Cat Hair

Authentic Stretch High-Rise Skinny Button Fly (washed black, size 26)

I fell in love with these button fly skinny jeans. Originally, I wasn’t a huge fan of the washed black colorway, but the more I got to thinking, the more I realized that washed black could look a lot like grey. (I mean…of course! Ha.) I do have grey skinny jeans already, but I’m gravitating more towards high-rises lately, so I was thrilled to find these. Unfortunately, they were sold out of my size, but I signed up for the waitlist and got emails almost every day as pairs were being returned. The pop-backs kept selling out until one day I was finally able to grab a pair!

I already have a pair of the authentic stretch high-rise skinny jeans in black (reviewed here), and I was excited to add another pair to my wardrobe. These jeans fit like a glove in size 26, and the fabric is softer than my black pair. I don’t find the button fly to be difficult to do up or undo. I ordered these in the ankle length, and on me they hit right above my ankle bone.

How I wore it: with shades of grey and black
