Red by Taylor Swift: Then and Now

I’m currently in my feels as I listen to Red (Taylor’s Version). All 2 hours and 10 minutes of it. WHEW. Red has such a special place in my heart. It was the first Taylor Swift tour I ever saw live. I went to two Reputation World Tour shows and both times got Red songs as the secret song (she always plays a couple of songs acoustically, and one of those is a surprise for the fans so no two shows are exactly the same): Holy Ground in Seattle and Begin Again in Minneapolis. I will always love this album!

This outfit fit the Red vibes perfectly (All Too Well, anyone?). We’ve had a multitude of rainy days lately! My rain boots have gotten out of the house quite a bit. This outfit isn’t terribly exciting, but it’s one I wear on repeat in the cooler months as long as precipitation is in the forecast (and it’s not snow—though sometimes I do pull these on if I’m running out for a quick errand and don’t want to deal with tying up snow boots). I love this waffle knit henley sweater so much. It’s from Everlane’s ReCashmere line, and I definitely recommend these sweaters if you’re eyeing them. And I’m wearing my Madewell curvy jeans, of course! I love ‘em so much.

Red by Taylor Swift at 23 vs. 32

I was 23 when the original Red version was released in fall 2012 (I had just turned 23 so totally missed out on the fun of singing 22 at age 22). I had just started grad school and went through a break up a few months prior, so it really felt like Taylor and I were at a similar place in life. That’s what I’ve loved about being a fan of Taylor; since we are the same age, it feels like we’ve grown up together and gone through things at similar times. I commiserated, I laughed, I cried, I sang my heart out while listening to Red. It felt like a warm hug and a cozy blanket on a chilly autumn day.

Now, I’m 32 (I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling 32 😉 ), and the re-recordings bring up so many of those memories of what life was like at 23. It’s crazy to think how much things have changed since then! I started blogging, adopted my sweet Sybil, finished up grad school, moved back to Boise, became employed, started a relationship (the second since that breakup before grad school), and now I’m here. At 32 listening to Red late at night while I finish writing this blog post. So many things change, and yet so many things stay the same. I’ll always be in love with Red, and I’m so happy to have a version to cherish forever: Taylor’s Version.
