The Blazer That Dresses Up ANY Outfit

The blazer that dresses up any outfit: J.Crew Sophie open-front sweater blazer — Cotton Cashmere Cat Hair

You’ve seen me wear the popular J.Crew Sophie open-front sweater blazer multiple times, and I own it in two colors—this heather khaki and heather grey (so far—I want more!). Why? It’s by far the most perfect blazer. This sweater blazer dresses up ANY outfit. Seriously. Throw it on over anything and the outfit instantly looks and feels more like a work outfit, even if you’re wearing leggings. I wouldn’t personally wear leggings to the office, but for WFH? You bet! And this blazer adds the most perfect finishing touch to make you feel like a boss, especially if you have back-to-back Zoom meetings.

J.Crew Sophie open-front sweater blazer

I honestly can’t sing the praises of this sweater blazer enough. And guess what!!! I just realized it’s on sale for nearly 50% off, plus you can take an extra 15% off through Saturday, March 13th. WHAT. I have the beautiful heather fern color in my cart because you know me and how I can’t get enough green in my wardrobe! In addition to heather fern, heather khaki, and heather grey, it’s also available in rose tile (a lovely pinky-red; I’m tempted by this color, too!), heather charcoal, stainless steel (light silvery-grey), navy, and black.

As far as sizing goes, my pre-pandemic J.Crew size is XS, and I sized down to an XXS in both colors that I currently own per reviews. Because of its open-front style and standard sleeve width, it’s more forgiving when it comes to the fit, so if you prefer a slim fit, I would recommend taking one size smaller than your usual. If you prefer a looser fit in the body/sleeves OR plan to layer over thicker tops/sweaters, then stick with your usual size. I doubt there’s a hugely noticeable difference between the two! Also, the sleeves are designed to be bracelet-length; I typically fold them up once to shorten them a bit more since I don’t like where they hit on my arms naturally.

For this outfit, I put together one of my typical casual workwear looks. If I were going into the office, I’d be wearing some variation of this outfit! My black paperbag pants are loose and comfortable yet office-appropriate, and I dared to combine them with chocolate brown boots and don’t hate how they look with each other. The black and shades of brown play off each other quite nicely I think!
