I recently felt inspired to style them with something new—a flannel shirt—and to dig into my blog archives and round up six other outfits featuring these pants to highlight a week’s worth of outfits featuring wide leg crops pants in case you’re looking for more wide leg pant outfit inspiration!

How to Style Wide Leg Crop Pants

In the past when I’ve styled these pants (see those looks below), I’ve generally stuck to the basics: neutral colors, minimal patterns, simple combinations with no layers. I never wanted to do too much because the pants were always the focal point of the outfit. I think they will always feel that way to me, especially because I’m on the short side (borderline petite, I like to say!). That said, I never want to feel like the pants are wearing me, you know?

For this look, I kept with my simple uniform of sorts with a flannel shirt, but I picked a flannel shirt in a punchy color and pattern to mix it up. This is a perfect winter workwear look—the flannel is presentable in meetings (virtual or in-person) yet still warm! I jazzed this outfit up even more with my newest pair of clay statement earrings. Aren’t they fun?! They’re most definitely Zoom-call-approved (but only if you aren’t wearing headphones…then they’re not so comfortable, haha!). There’s a lot going on in this outfit but I’m enjoying how well everything goes together!

Below are six other outfits styling my Everlane wide leg crop pants in ochre!

One thing you’ll notice in this week of wide leg pants outfits is that even though I’m short, I don’t shy away from pairing my wide leg pants with volume on top and with boots that completely cover my ankles or that might cut me off at an “unflattering” place on the leg. Most often, you’ll see wider pants styled with slimmer tops for “balance”—which is totally a thing and I’m into balanced looks. But I’m also into oversized everything, and I definitely don’t mind wearing more billowy tops with them!

Look through the other outfits below and let me know what your favorite of the seven outfits is (or what you could see yourself wearing) in the comments! As always, if you click on any of the photos, you’ll be taken to the original outfit post.

OUTFIT IDEAS WITH WIDE LEG CROP PANTS

Cozy Sweaters + Brown Boots

Give me a cozy knit sweater and I’ll wear it with literally anything and everything. Ivory and earthy green are two of my favorite colors to wear in the fall and winter, so wearing these two sweaters with my wide leg crop pants was a no-brainer to me! I also love contrasting the light brown pants with dark chocolate brown boots (as seen in the first outfit in this post); my Aquatalia ankle boots (left) and Cole Haan riding boots (right; and yes—those are knee-high boots under my pants!) are slimming at the ankle for additional visual contrast against the wide pants.

Black on Top + Ankle Boots

Can’t ever go wrong with black, can ya? I love wearing cropped tops and sweaters with high-rise pants, and my wide leg pants are no exception. And, of course, stripes (and faux leather jackets) are always the right answer! These were actually the first two outfits I wore with these pants, and I would rewear either of these looks! I think there is some debate on whether or not showing the sliver of skin between an ankle boot and pant is visually jarring, and it definitely comes down to personal preference; it’s not something I mind myself. I did find that I prefer when the boots don’t hit right at the bottom of the pants because sometimes the pants can get caught on the boots when walking.

Girly Blouses + Fancy Heels

Here are a couple of wide leg crop pants outfits perfect for spring and summer (or fall and winter if you live in a warm place!). I enjoy wearing girly tops (in this case, a white lace blouse and pink floral-print blouse) with utilitarian pants like these. Add a blazer and you’re set for a work presentation or meeting! I tend to prefer wearing wide leg pants with a little bit of a heel, so for these spring/summer looks I pulled out heeled sandals and my Ferragamo Vara pumps. They show a little bit of skin, perfect for a warmer time of year, and also give me a lil extra height as a borderline petite person!
