Summer 2020 Budget = $500

$500 (quarterly budget) = $608 ($256.50 June + $169 June + $182.50 August) - $108 earned from Poshmark sales

Not surprisingly, much like spring, this summer was the summer of comfy clothes (and multiples!) for the at home life. It was a quieter season in terms of purchases; I didn’t order much, and everything I ordered, I kept. I really tried to be thoughtful with my purchases to purposefully avoid returns. I did order a few things in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, and I went ahead and mentioned those (even though they aren’t included in this budget) because the sale ends on Saturday the 30th. By some miracle, every single item that I ordered shipped. I haven’t have one cancellation (well, not yet…there is one backordered item). Now let’s hope everything works out so I don’t have to deal with returns, haha.

What I kept:

  • Madewell pull-on shorts: Elastic waist and pockets? These were a no-brainer purchase. I stuck with a size XS after reading reviews and they fit perfectly. They do get a little wrinkled with wear.

  • Madewell curvy high-rise skinny crop jeans in Dalstrom wash: I finally tried curvy jeans and spoiler alert: I love them and wish I had tried them sooner! I purchased these in size 26 regular; the cropped length hits me right at my ankle, and I think 26 is my new pandemic size.

  • Girlfriend Collective high-rise bike shorts (currently sold out; see new version with pockets!): Love them (especially the color!) but definitely wish they had pockets! Will be ordering a pair of the new version with pockets for sure. I took a size small and they’re a little loose but I prefer that over being too compressive.

  • Girlfriend Collective scrunchie: I added this to my order to get free shipping, haha. It’s a nice scrunchie, though it doesn’t feel like it “holds” as well as regular hair ties (to be expected). It’s also made from recycled plastic like the other products!

  • Uniqlo cotton sleeveless tee: Honestly, this was probably my worst purchase of the summer, but it was so inexpensive that it wasn’t worth sending back. I love the style in theory but it just isn’t cut right for my body. It’s also a little longer than I prefer and it billows strangely when tucked, so I’m not sure if this will ever be blogged. I took a size XS.

  • Target Taylor Swift ‘Lover’ graphic tee (sold out): I have a terrible lack of self control when it comes to inexpensive Taylor Swift merchandise, lol. It’s a fun way to get back into graphic tees! This one is now sold out but Target has a wide variety of other graphic tees available. I wear a size XS.

  • Target mid-rise knit shorts: These shorts are quite possibly my best purchase of the summer. Loose fit, not too short, drawstring waist, pockets! They are the best for working from home. I purchased them in all four colors in size XS.

  • Aliya Wanek Ami sweatshirt: I jumped on these cropped sweatshirts made from a hemp and cotton blend when they were restocked at the end of July (another restock is expected in September). I ordered one in dusty rose and one in olive, both size small. The olive is my favorite of the two colors! They are on the spendier side, but I feel strongly that it’s important for me to support small Black-owned businesses since I am fortunate to have the means to do so.

  • Two Days Off Suki top: This is an absolutely gorgeous, 100% linen, slightly cropped, made-to-order tank top by another Black-owned brand. The color, clay, reminds me of fall, so it’s a fabulous transitional piece! I ordered a size small after considering the size chart for a while but I think an XS would have maybe also worked?

  • Valerie Madison 14k gold X & O stud earrings: I’ve loved these fun studs for months and finally ordered a pair for myself a couple of months ago. My only qualm is that they are difficult to remove, but they really are well made and gorgeous! (This is another Black-owned brand.)

  • Maison Miru crystal stud earrings: These sweet and simple stud earrings are available for the cost of shipping ($6.99) right now! I love these earrings; they’re perfect everyday earrings. They’re very lightweight yet don’t feel weak.

What I ordered from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale (ends Sunday, August 30th):

  • Thread & Supply wubby fleece pullover: I wasn’t sure if I wanted another one (I got the same pullover in a different color a couple of years ago), but it was in stock when it was my turn to shop so I went for it. I ordered a size XS because the small I ordered previously is a little too big (arms are too long). It arrived today (too late for my collage!), and XS was definitely the right choice! It’s still oversized in the body but the arms are a more manageable length.

  • Zella restore soft pocket lounge leggings: I’m honestly surprised these didn’t sell out before the sale was open to the public! I grabbed them in charcoal in size XS after reviews suggested they run slightly loose. I have my eyes on the matching bra top, too.

  • Ugg Fluffette slippers: I included these slippers in navy in my short Nordstrom Anniversary Sale round-up, but of course, they were sold out when the sale opened to the public. I checked again later that day and they had been restocked in all sizes and colors. I ended up purchasing them in cream instead of navy… Reviews are mixed on sizing, and I ordered my true size, so hopefully they fit. (These are backordered for a couple more weeks.)

  • Nordstrom bliss plush throw: Not clothing, but I wanted to share because I am obsessed with this blanket. I buy one every year! It’s so soft and washes well. Last year, I bought a couple to give to others, but I couldn’t resist the balsam green for myself this year. Sadly, that color is now sold out along with most of the others. If this sells out after I hit publish, check back before the weekend ends to see if any pop back.

What (else) is on deck for fall:

  • Blondo waterproof boots: I shared the snakeskin-print Emelia boots in my NAS roundup, which I still love, but I’m also keeping an eye on the grey suede Sydney boot. These boots might be on deeper sale later this fall, so I’m holding out for that possibility.

  • Marine Layer re-spun sherpa corbet in cashew: I’ve had my eyes on this sweater for months! I’ve been waiting for it to go on deeper sale, which is not looking like will happen (the lowest price I’ve seen it at is $80). I’m hoping they’ll throw a sale-on-sale promo for Labor Day weekend so I can finally snatch it up. (Can you tell I have a thing for wubby sweaters?)

  • Honestly, I’m not sure what else is on deck! It’s looking like I may be working from home for at least the rest of the calendar year, so I really don’t need anything…of course, there will always be things I want, though. Fall collections always entice me! My goal is to not go overboard with new clothes this fall and keep an eye out for things I want on Poshmark.
