4th of July Outfits to Recreate with Pieces You Already Own

And just like that, it’s July and we’re halfway through the year! (Happy Canada Day to all of you in the Great White North!) It seems like every year, Independence Day sneaks up on me. I’m aware that it’s coming…and then it’s the end of June and I’m shocked to look at the calendar and see that the 4th is only a week away. Is it just me? Haha.

I’m a big fan of not shopping specifically for a single holiday or event (unless you have big plans that may require something different than what you already own), and retailers love to release a plethora of patriotic garments to wear for the 4th that may only get worn once or twice before being donated. And yes, I’m thinking about all of the matching Old Navy flag tees that my family insisted we wear every summer for family photos—LOL.

It’s so easy to pull from pieces in your own closet for the 4th that I contemplated whether or not to even put together this post…but I figured it would at least remind me of some of my favorite past outfits and inspire me for this year! I rounded up my most Independence Day-ready outfits below. There’s a mix between outfits that are perfect for more “formal” events and outfits that are casual for BBQ/evening festivities. As always, if you click on each photo it will take you to the original post.

What to Wear For the 4th of July (From Your Own Closet!)

Here are some of the items in my closet that I would wear to 4th of July affairs and that you probably already have in your closet, too:

  • Striped tee (red stripes, navy stripes, or a mix of navy and red!)

  • White tank top (lace adds texture)

  • Chambray (a classic, but only if it’s not too warm outside)

  • Denim shorts (but of course!)

  • Skinny or boyfriend jeans (for when it cools off in the evening)

  • Casual dress (bonus points if it’s striped)

  • Sandals (obviously…but maybe wear closed-toe shoes if you’re the one lighting fireworks)

  • Lightweight sweater (another item for when it cools off in the evening)

Do you have any fun plans for the weekend? Mine are TBD! I’m sure it’ll involve watching fireworks at some point…and hopefully eating yummy food, too. :)
