Boise Food Trucks: Best French Fries

For the past few months, I’ve been on a mission to try as many French fries from as many food trucks in the Boise area as possible. Idaho is known for its delicious potatoes, and there is no shortage of restaurants and other food establishments (including food trucks!) across the state offering this tasty finger food. (Did you know that potatoes are my favorite food? I love every variation and type...except for sweet potatoes, which are not anywhere near as good, haha.) Also, in case you didn't know, July 13th is National French Fry Day!

If you find yourself at a food truck park in Boise (more on those below!), be sure to grab French fries from one of these trucks if they’re around! I've been taste testing a variety of food truck fries for science purposes and am excited to share my preliminary results with you. Of course, this project requires a lot more testing, so I plan on updating this post as I try more food truck French fries. I hope this helps if you feel overwhelmed by the options and want a quick snack!

Boise Food Trucks: Best French Fries

Big Jud’s

Big Jud’s is a local burger restaurant (with multiple locations in Idaho) that offers a “world famous” 1 lb cheeseburger (the Big Jud Special). You can try the 1 lb burger challenge OR the 2 lb burger challenge if you go to the restaurant. The challenge isn’t available with the food truck, but have no fear! The burgers are delicious and the fries are even better—they’re made from fresh, hand cut Idaho potatoes. The fries are thick and especially delicious when they’re a bit crunchy on the outside (sometimes you might get a few that are a bit too soft in my opinion). You MUST get them with jalapeño ranch dipping sauce. It’s the best! These are also a great value: 1/2 lb for $4.25 or 1 lb for $6.25.

The Kilted Kod

The Kilted Kod has a small menu, but they do it well. You can of course get fish and chips (fries), but they also offer chicken strips. Or you can just get a basket of fries if you’re like me! I absolutely love whatever batter they put on these fries. They’re your typical fry size (not thick like Big Jud’s, but not shoestring thin), and the batter makes them super crunchy and delicious. And they’re not fishy at all, if that’s also something you worry about with establishments that serve fish, especially fried fish ! A basket of fries at The Kilted Kod will set you back $5.

The Rusty Dog

If you love hand cut and fresh dipped corn dogs, The Rusty Dog is your food truck. They offer five different corn dog varieties plus a veggie dog (made of soy) if meat isn’t your thing. I’m partial to their delicious French fries! Their fries are also fresh cut daily, and they’re quite similar to Big Jud’s but cut a little bit smaller. They’re salted well and have a nice crunch on the outside! A basket of fries at The Rusty Dog costs $3.50, and they also offer chili fries for $6.

Something Different

Something Different offers a variety of European-style dishes, including Ukrainian Chebureks. I saw curly fries on their menu and was immediately sold, haha! Curly fries are somehow always the best cut of fries. These fries were crunchy and delicious with the perfect batter and seasoning. I also ordered a cheese quesadilla with grilled onion and mushrooms and it was one of the best quesadillas I’ve ever had, no joke. The crispy cheese on the outside!!! So good. I will definitely be finding this truck and ordering this meal again!

The Sammie Shack

The Sammie Shack makes a variety of hearty burgers and sandwiches! I recently tried their caprese sammie, and it was delicious. I also got an order of their Parmesan garlic fries (they don’t offer plain fries on their menu but might be able to make them for you). The fries were also super yummy! I’m not a huge Parmesan fan, but I didn’t mind it on the fries at all. The fries had a nice airiness and crunch and didn’t taste like they come frozen (if they do). I didn’t try the dipping sauce they gave me (I love my fries plain, unless it’s jalapeño ranch dipping sauce haha). (Side note: The breakfast burrito I ordered for later was also delish!)

Banada Burger

Banada Burger is known for their “Banada Burger”, which is a burger patty in between two empanadas as buns. If it sounds like too much, I agree with you LOL. They also offer other (regular) burgers, empanadas on their own, and French fries. I’m fairly certain their fries start frozen, and I’m not super crazy about the flavor of whatever seasoning they put on them, so they aren’t my favorite food truck fries of the bunch. I also tried their jalapeño ranch dressing and it’s not as good as Big Jud’s. I believe the fries cost $5.

I hope this post helps you find the yummiest food truck French fries in Boise! There are SO MANY more I have yet to get to and will update this post as I try new trucks. Looking for more food trucks in Boise? Use Street Food Finder to see a variety of food trucks and where they are located in and around Boise (not all of them are on there, but many are!).
