The Best Lightweight (Yet Warm) Jacket for Chilly Fall Weather

Happy Friday, friends! Today’s post is a quick one; it’s an outfit I recently wore featuring one of my most recent purchases: a new jacket! I actually don’t have a large outerwear collection. Even though I live in a place that gets all four seasons, I feel like I have a relatively “normal” size (i.e. not a typical “blogger” size) coat closet. I currently own 15 jackets and coats according to Stylebook, and they range from my fleece jacket, trench coat, field jacket, rain jacket, and leather jacket—all worn when it’s mild outside—to my wool coats, puffer coats, faux fur coat, etc.—worn on chilly to cold days.

I noticed that while I was set for mild weather and set for cold weather, there was a gap in between where my lightweight jackets were not enough, but my heavier jackets and coats felt like overkill. I really don’t like being cold, so I tend to err on the side of heavier jackets/coats, but I really wanted something for the chilly fall weather—so I added the J.Crew quilted puffer lady jacket to my closet!

J.CREW QUILTED PUFFER LADY JACKET WITH PRIMALOFT

The J.Crew quilted puffer lady jacket with PrimaLoft spoke to me because it’s warm on its own (yes, PrimaLoft is warm—I was surprised at how warm!) yet can be easily layered under other jackets and coats to add even more warmth if needed. The PrimaLoft is a down alternative and is made out of recycled plastic bottles, which of course I love. I appreciate that J.Crew designed this jacket with recycled nylon as well. It’s a sustainable puffer!

This jacket also features a button closure, two front pockets, and a collarless design. I don’t typically go for collarless coats, but it’s much easier to layer collarless coats under collared coats; too many collars and you’ll feel like you’re suffocating! The fit of this jacket is what I would call slim straight. It’s easy to layer over shirts and thinner sweaters if you take your true size, or I would consider sizing up to layer over thicker sweaters. I took a size 2! (I have broad shoulders and long arms, which are my biggest fit issues when it comes to tops/outerwear.)

The quilted puffer lady jacket is available in Huntington green (the color I own!), dusty ivory, and black. I own a field jacket in a similar green but just loved this color too much to go with something else! (Also, I already own a black puffer, and I figured I’d dirty the ivory color quickly.) Be sure to check out all seven styles in J.Crew’s most sustainable puffer collection yet if you’re in the market to add a lil warmth to your fall/winter wardrobe!
