Spring 2020 Budget = $500

$500 (quarterly budget) = $825 ($414 March + $199 April + $212 May) - $133 Madewell gift card - $192 earned from Poshmark sales

With everything happening with the pandemic and transitioning to working from home, it is certainly interesting to see the direction my clothing purchases went this past quarter. I’m not sure I could have predicted that I’d buy cardigans and leggings like they were going out of style! Most things I purchased can easily transition back into working at the office. I also got a head start on fall/winter by adding a couple of sale sweaters, and picked up a couple of things off of Poshmark.

What I kept:

  • Madewell Deville cardigan sweater: After wanting this cardigan when it was released last year and missing out, I finally snagged this cardigan after it was re-released this year! I plan to wear this primarily as a sweater on its own. I took my usual size XS.

  • Madewell Bradley cardigan sweater: I bought even more cardigans to add to my work from home wardrobe. I love the gorgeous kale green color! I purchased it in a size small after reading reviews, but I think an XS would have been fine, too. I wanted it to be long enough in the arms, and it is, but it’s also pretty oversized in the body.

  • Madewell marled Bradley cardigan sweater: It’s the same cardigan as the one above but in a marled grey colorway. I also purchased a size small.

  • Madewell cotton-linen baseball cap: I wear a hat basically every day, so I added some more to rotate between. I do already have a white baseball cap (I wore it as part of my May style sudoku), but it’s very stark, so I like this as another light option that isn’t quite so stark white.

  • Madewell velvet baseball cap (via Poshmark): I decided to hunt for some old Madewell styles and found this pink velvet baseball cap. I love the velvet for something different texturally.

  • Madewell baseball cap in textural stripe (via Poshmark): And another one! Poshmark is a great place for baseball caps, as it turns out.

  • Amour Vert Tatum dream rib pants: I’ve raved about these pants, but it’s worth repeating: these are excellent work-from-home (or regular lounge-at-home) pants! The dream rib fabric really is dreamy, and the wide leg flows really nicely. Plus, pockets! I took my usual XS.

  • Amour Vert Berkeley tee: I purchased this tee I believe the same weekend it was released. The cream and pink stripes were too cute to pass up. I purchased a size small because I thought an XS would be too tight, but the small is a little big and likely won’t shrink due to it being modal.

  • Amour Vert Elita wool sweater: I’m not typically a fan of long sweaters on myself, but all last winter I considered adding one to wear with ponte pants and other slim pants (and leggings). When I saw that this one was on sale, I scooped it up. My usual size XS fits perfectly, and it’s so soft! I love it. I won’t get a chance to wear it for a while, but I’m looking forward to when I can.

  • Amour Vert Daria pompom sweater: I had been eyeing this sweater since last fall/winter, so when I saw that it was included in the sale, I snagged it. I love the burgundy color—perfect for the cooler months (when those come back around). Size XS fits me well. The reviews rave about how soft it is for being wool, and I agree that it’s soft but actually think that the Elita sweater above may be softer!

  • Zella live in high waist pocket 7/8 leggings in green urban (sold out): This is my favorite style of Zella leggings, so I bought a couple of pairs for workouts and to wear to work from home. I was disappointed in the color of these leggings, though. In the stock photo, they look like a dark olive or forest green, but in person, they are more of a blueish-green.

  • Zella live in high waist pocket 7/8 leggings in grey forged (sold out): Love these! I wear them all the time. As with my other pairs, I purchased a size XS. I prefer this style over the live in high rise regular length leggings, which are less forgiving in the waistband.

  • Zella live in high waist pocket bike shorts (sold out): I grabbed these to try when they were 25% off a couple of months ago. I really like them, but they are a little clingy everywhere so I’m not sure if I should have tried a size up (I got an XS). They’re not super compressive, which I like.

  • Barefoot Dreams CozyChic Lite circle cardigan: Always a favorite during the annual summer anniversary sale, I finally got a chance to try it for myself when it was 25% off. It’s not what I was expecting; it’s thinner and not what I would consider oversized because it’s hard to layer with long sleeves (I got the XS/S). That said, it is extremely soft and cozy!

  • Vetta Capsule lace button up blouse: I figured I’d try this blouse when it was on sale since small businesses can use all the help they can get right now. It’s girly without being frilly. After much debate, I settled on a size XS, and it fits fairly loose in the body. I love that it is reversible.

  • Nisolo Rosa pouch: The gorgeous nutmeg color was calling my name! I think I’ll primarily use this pouch for storage when traveling, whenever that happens again. It’s tempting to also pick up the black…

  • Earth Scenic Vapor sneakers (c/o): As part of my ongoing partnership with Earth, I picked these sneakers in white. They’re my new favorite pair of sneakers! They fit TTS.

  • Earth Uptown Uma mules (c/o): I also selected these snakeskin-print mules for something a little different. I’m surprised by how much I like them! They took a little bit of time to break in around the tops of my feet, but otherwise they’re comfy (and also fit TTS).

What I tried and returned:

  • ABLE Scilia block heel: I ordered these in “sand napa” to see if they would work for a wedding I’ll be in…and they didn’t really go with the vibe of my bridesmaid dress, so unfortunately, back they went. I’m also not a fan of the square toe trend as it turns out.

  • Madewell classic straight jeans: I ordered these along with the Deville cardigan since they were under $100 on sale, but I wasn’t thrilled with the fit of these, especially in the legs. I don’t know if I’m just not used to straight legs jeans after years of skinny jeans or if they really were too big in the legs (and they felt like they’d stretch out, especially in the knees).

What’s on deck for summer:

  • Taylor Swift Lover graphic tee: This tee is available from Target! I recently purchased it because, well, I have little self control when it comes to cute Taylor merch. This might be one I end up wearing in regular outfits! It’s been a while since I’ve worn a graphic tee. I purchased a size XS after reading reviews saying it runs larger than normal juniors sizing.

  • I’m on the hunt for more tanks to layer under cardigans. I’m really picky about tanks; I don’t like racerbacks, I don’t like spaghetti straps, and I avoid anything that is low-cut in front and on the sides (what looks low-cut on a model will definitely be too low on me). I’m also looking for cotton/cotton blends—no poly if I can help it, no rayon because it shrinks, and no silk because I’m lazy when it comes to laundering silk.

  • I will also likely add another pair or two of bike shorts. I’m thinking about trying a pair from Girlfriend Collective next (but am worried because I tried a pair of their leggings, and they were too compressive, so please let me know your thoughts if you’ve tried the bike shorts!). Otherwise, I’ve heard good things about Aerie bike shorts. I’m open to recommendations!
