Tonal Winter Monochrome Outfit

Tonal monochrome winter outfit idea — Cotton Cashmere Cat Hair

There’s something about tonal color combinations I just can’t get enough of, and putting together this outfit with a fun new color combination was my attempt at trying to get out of my winter outfit rut. For some reason I was super drawn to this burgundy and weathered clay tonal color combo. Can you tell the sweater is a different color than the coat and beanie? The colors photographed much more similarly than I thought they would, so hopefully you don’t think I’m terrible at matching, LOL.

I can’t help but think this outfit would absolutely pop with a layer of snow as a backdrop, but alas…we haven’t had any significant snow since November! How is the weather where you are?

I didn’t realize this until just now, but this would be a fun Valentine’s Day outfit…you know, if we weren’t in a global pandemic and could go on a dinner date somewhere other than at home. (This is about as fancy as I get, even pre-pandemic!) Other outfits I’ve worn in the past that could work for the traditionally pink and red holiday include this one featuring pink chenille and red boots (or a more casual version of the same combo), this one featuring the same burgundy coat and blush pink, and another one featuring blush pink and burgundy.

I haven’t pulled out this old Madewell cocoon coat in sooo long! Truth be told, it’s because it’s a cat hair magnet, and I’m lazy and don’t want to bother lint rolling it every five minutes. It took me forever to lint roll it before shooting this outfit and there was still cat hair on it. I had to include it in this outfit, though, because it matched the beanie perfectly. I tried on a couple of other coats before settling on this one; as I said, I just love monochromatic outfits! This was such a fun and unexpected combo to wear.

What are your thoughts on monochrome outfits? Would you wear this color combination?
