We are now a couple of weeks into the new year, and I still haven't given much thought to any sort of resolutions. I used to set them in years past but quickly found that I wasn't the strict resolution type (by that I mean: I couldn't keep them, and it made me sad when I didn't meet my blogging goals). Last year, I wrote a list of style resolutions that I kept in mind throughout the year and plan to keep in mind this year and all future years unless I feel like they need to be updated. Those were, and still are, reasonable resolutions—and there's no end date in place for them.

I can honestly say that I feel like I've made considerable progress on all of the style resolutions I set a year ago. I added only 53 items to my closet last year—17 less than in 2016. (That will be tough to beat this year!) I splurged on a few ethical/sustainable pieces from Amour Vert (striped top, midi skirt, gold stud earrings) and Everlane (two linen tees, 100% human tee, striped dress, cashmere sweater, black skinny jeans). I updated my closet inventory for the fourth time and found that the number stayed around 200 items, which is the right number for me right now. I also bought some fun new, non-basic pieces and tried some new outfit combinations!

This year, I want to especially focus on the "have more fun"/new outfit combinations resolution. At this point, I know the fits I like, and I know the colors I like, so now I want to push my style boundaries a little bit. I don't know how that will look right now (and to be honest, I'm probably being too ambitious), but I dipped my toes in it last year and want to continue playing around with my style this year.

I definitely had some fun with this outfit! I layered a long-sleeved peplum top under my new cashmere sweater from Grana. This sweater is cropped (and loose) enough that it required some sort of layer underneath, so I added an interesting black top versus something more "safe" or predictable. I love how they look like they could be one piece! The cognac boots and bag lighten it up and tie it all together.
