Style Trial: The Everlane Way-Short Shirt

How to style a cropped dress shirt in a casual late summer outfit | Cotton Cashmere Cat Hair

Now that we’re in September, my summer content will be wrapping up shortly! Kind of hard to believe it’s time to be thinking about FALL and the HOLIDAYS (gasp!!!). Last fall and winter felt like a wash because of the pandemic, so it’ll be interesting to see how this fall and winter will feel once it’s all said and done. But let’s back up because it’s not quite time for that just yet!

I’ve noticed that I’ve been wearing a lot of the same things this summer. Part of it is because most of my pairs of jeans and pants do not fit (or do fit but aren’t that comfortable to wear for long periods of time) and part of it is because I’ve honestly just felt like wearing the same few things. I’m sure this means it’s time to prune down my closet a bit…but I’m also trying to make the conscious effort to wear what’s in my closet—and that includes this fun cropped shirt I bought a couple of months ago!

Everlane Silky Cotton Cropped Shirt

I’m wearing the silky cotton cropped shirt from Everlane (read my review). This colorway, marine blue/white striped, sold out right around the time that I put together my review but is now back in all sizes as of today! This same shirt is also available in solid white, golden brown/white stripes, and cinnamon. I own two other blue striped shirts that are fairly similar (I just wore and blogged my very similar short sleeved shirt!) but you know I can’t resist a good blue stripe. I’m wearing a size small.

My gut instinct with blue striped shirts is to wear them with white jeans (or shorts). White jeans match the stripes and they just pull it all together. It’s easy and always looks intentional. This time, I branched out and wore a pair of dark grey high-rise jeans (a necessity with cropped shirts) and my trusty old pair of black loafers that I’ve owned since basically the start of my blog! I’m shocked at how well they’ve held up over the years. (They even survived a torrential downpour in Vienna!)

I’m really loving how this outfit turned out. It feels very “me”—with a twist! I need to remember to channel this energy into all of my outfits, especially as we head into a new season.

WOULD YOU WEAR A CROPPED DRESS SHIRT TO WORK?

I would love to know how you would style a button up shirt like this! I had imagined myself wearing it just like this to the office, but now I’m second-guessing if I’m brave enough, especially because adding a third piece on top might mess with the fit of the shirt and cause the torso to rise up even more. It would also likely mess with the boxy silhouette. I think I might go for it anyway…! It’s so fun to wear and is one of the more interesting shirts in my closet.
