5 Recent Purchases + Memorial Day Sale Picks

5 recent purchases: Vuori performance jogger, Amazon COMFY BRA seamless sports bras, ABLE Anika tank tops, Madewell pull-on shorts, One/Third Jacket 09 rain jacket review | Cotton Cashmere Cat Hair

I tend to not share my new purchases until my end-of-season budget posts if they haven’t been featured in any outfit posts prior to then. Last fall, I started sharing these mini round-ups of recent purchases just in case anything I order sells out before the budget post goes live. I don’t know that any of these items in particular are in danger of selling out but just in case, here are a few of my recent purchases on the off chance you’re looking any of them (and maybe you’ll catch ‘em on sale!). I definitely stretched the “five recent purchases” this time because I ordered multiples of two styles. Technically, I’m sharing eight recent purchases!

I have shopped way too much the past couple of months, mostly because of my long road trip. I used the road trip as an excuse to place orders at Vuori (a new-to-me brand), Madewell, and Amazon. I brought and wore all of those items while on my trip. I also placed orders at ABLE (during a sample sale) and at One/Third, another new-to-me brand co-founded by one of my favorite bloggers, Anna.

At the end of the post, I rounded up some of my top Memorial Day sale picks! The sales are CRAZY good right now, and I’m having a really hard time not spending more money haha. What are you shopping for this weekend, if anything?

Vuori Performance Jogger (navy heather, size S)

SO MANY people have recommended these Vuori joggers, and I finally took the plunge so I could bring them on our road trip. I ended up wearing them every evening and even for a couple of travel days; they’re the perfect lounge/WFH jogger! (I wore the exact outfit above while on our trip!) I also bought Korri a pair of the Sunday performance joggers and I’m not sure he’s taken them off since, LOL. He sleeps in his joggers!

Vuori joggers are expensive, but I can see why. They hold their shape well if you wear them multiple times between washing, and they look good as new after being washed (I’m wearing them here for the first time after washing them). The fabric is soft and easy to move in. They’re a great lightweight jogger for the warmer months.

I opted for a size small; reviews are mixed and some folks preferred to size down and some preferred to size up. I went with a small, and they’re loose but in the most comfortable way. I’m tempted to order another pair in XS to compare but I really do love the fit of these! The waist would be slightly big if not for the drawstring.

Now the question is: What color should I order next?! Haha! 🙈

Amazon COMFY BRA Seamless Sport Bra (black/ensign/white, size S)

When placing a last-minute Amazon Prime order before my road trip, I remembered these sports bras shared by Jess. I don’t own that many sports bras, and the ones I do own are old and brighter colors that don’t match anything else I own. I added these to my cart just to try them out because they got rave reviews from others! I love the seamless look and the neutral colors (though there are other brighter colors offered and I’m considering buying those, too).

To be honest, even though I still have Prime, I don’t shop at Amazon all that often anymore, and I can’t remember the last time I bought clothes from Amazon that were from an “unknown” brand. I tend to stay away from products that aren’t a well-known name brand. (I also bought Smartwool hiking socks in the same order. I did not plan for the trip well LOL.)

Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised by these bras! They’re compressive but not restricting, and I’m a big fan of the longline fit. I debated between sizes small and medium and opted for the small because Jess got them in medium and she’s pregnant…so I figured small would work for me! Ha. For reference, my bust measures approximately 34” and I’m a 30DD bra size.

I wore them to hike around during our road trip and they worked great! The white isn’t even see through (at least for me), so that’s much appreciated! (I wore the white bra to hike Arches.) They are thin enough to show headlights sooo do keep that in mind. I would still recommend them!

ABLE Anika Tank (white and grey, size S)

I’ve had my eyes on these tanks for a few months, so I placed an order during their sample sale a couple of months ago. The caveat of the sale was that everything was exchange only. I picked up the tank in two colors, white and grey; I think black was an option too but size small was sold out. It was my first time placing a clothing order at ABLE; previously, my only purchases were jewelry.

The tanks are exactly the same style, but the colors fit wildly differently. The white tank is stretchier and slightly longer than the grey tank, which has a much more snug fit, even in the same size. The difference is probably caused by the different fabric blends: the white color is a cotton-modal blend, and the grey tank is a cotton-poly blend. (Of note, the white color is much more off-white in person.) The white color is also more of a “slub” fabric, and it’s slightly sheer.

I almost exchanged the grey tank for a medium after first try on, but then I tried it on again and it had loosened a little bit. The white tank came with a stain on the back that I didn’t notice until recently, so hopefully I can get that out. I’m not crazy about the off-white color because I was expecting a true white, but I’ll see how it works for me this summer!

Madewell Pull-On Shorts (desert olive, size XS)

I ordered the same shorts in black last summer and knew the olive color had to join my wardrobe when I saw them this spring! I actually *gulp* paid full-price for these shorts. I think it was the first time I’d ever done that at Madewell (and it was only because I had an Amex offer to use)! I also paid for expedited shipping because I wanted them before my trip. I did end up wearing them! Ha.

Pre-pandemic, my normal Madewell size was XS. Last summer, I ordered the black shorts in XS and they fit fine. They still do fit fine thanks to the elastic waist. I ordered these shorts in a size XS too, but they feel a little snugger after being washed. It’s not a deal breaker but I definitely notice it. I think a small would have provided a looser fit around the hips and legs and an overall more comfortable fit. I may snag the small if I see them go on sale… They’re such a great summer staple!

One/Third Jacket 09 (size S)

Have you heard of the brand One/Third? It was started by Anna of See Anna Jane and her friend and business partner, Coabi. They produce a small collection of versatile jackets (“third pieces”) to elevate your everyday outfits, and I’ve had my eyes on a couple of their offerings. I really loved this jacket—Jacket 09—a fashionable rain jacket!

Jacket 09 is a lightweight rain jacket, perfect for the spring and summer (and early fall). It’s said to be waterproof AND windproof, however I have not yet tested it out in the wild. It features a full zip with a snap button closure at the top, an adjustable drawstring at the waist for added shape, and a hood with a drawstring. The sleeve cuffs are a ribbed sweatshirt-like material.

I ordered Jacket 09 in size small after going back and forth between that and XS. The small does fit a little bit on me in the body and even in the sleeve length, which is usually where items tend to run small/short because I have long arms. I wish I could have tried the XS because that probably would have fit better overall. I ended up keeping the small because the drawstring at the waist helps to make it not look so big, and I have enough room for layering if needed! The navy color is absolutely gorgeous. And I love that it doesn’t have the traditional rain jacket noise (you know what I mean?!).
