Referee Chic: Striped Tee Dress + White Sneakers

How to wear a striped t-shirt dress with sneakers — Cotton Cashmere Cat Hair

Even though March Madness is officially over, now it’s time for April Madness!!! You may know that I’m a super fan of college gymnastics, and it is now postseason; last weekend was Regionals, which is when the top 36 teams are narrowed down to the top 32 after competition on Thursday, then narrowed down to the top 16 after competition on Friday, and then finally narrowed down to the top 8 after competition on Saturday. The top 8 then go on to Nationals in mid-April, which follow a format similar to Regionals with two days of competition. It’s a lot of gymnastics in a very short amount of time and I LOVE IT!!! Hahaha. (Though I’m not quite ready for the season to be over!)

Anyway, this outfit has nothing to do with gymnastics or sports really in general except that whenever I wear my white baseball cap with black and white stripes, I feel like I look like a referee.

It was an absolutely BEAUTIFUL weekend last weekend. Could not have asked for a better early spring weekend, to be honest! I took full advantage of the near-80 degree temperatures and pulled out my shorts and my go-to t-shirt dress for the occasion. Even though I love this dress (and wear it often) with sandals, I decided to try something new and pair my striped t-shirt dress with sneakers!

I’m typically not a huge fan of wearing sneakers with dresses, and I think it’s because I’m self-conscious of my legs. For some reason, it feels like sneakers accentuate them in a way I don’t like, and I don’t feel the same way when I wear sandals (I’m not sure why because my legs obviously look the same no matter what shoes I wear).

For me, the trick to comfortably wearing sneakers with a dress is to pick a dress that hits mid-thigh. As a borderline petite person, more leg length helps me feel not so self-conscious about my legs! Writing that out made me realize that I play some weird mental games sometimes. Welp. 😆 If it works, it works!

This spring outfit is basic but that’s the beauty of it—it’s easy to throw together and feel like you didn’t just roll out of bed. Matching my baseball cap to my sneakers adds to the pulled-together feeling, even if the white baseball cap paired with the black and white striped dress does conjure up images of football referees. At least they’re not vertical stripes?! Ha!
