Millennial Style: Lugsole Boots with Wide Leg Pants
Your friendly neighborhood stubborn millennial (slash scientist) is back attempting to feel more comfortable in the latest fashion trends! Last month, I shared that I was going through an existential style crisis. I still am, for the most part…but I’ve also put together some outfits recently that actually felt more like me. I don’t feel like I’m a big millennial kid playing dress up in the Gen Z trends, which I consider a big success!
I recently added a new pair of black wide leg pants (with an elastic waist!) to my wardrobe. These could honestly be worn any season with the right styling and layers! First up is a fun fall outfit featuring the wide leg pants and another current trend: chunky lugsole boots.

It can be a challenge figuring out what types of shoes work with wide leg pants. In the summer, it’s easy to throw on a pair of sandals; sandals go with everything! In the fall, once the weather starts to cool down, it’s much trickier. Not only will your shoe choice depend on the weather, it will also depend on the length of your wide leg pants.
Here, I’m wearing cropped wide leg pants. Being borderline petite, cropped wide leg pants work well on my height and don’t make me feel like I’m being swallowed by my pants. I know that full-length pants are trending but that’s one trend I will probably skip. I remember the childhood days of full-length pants dragging through puddles and getting soaking wet up to my knees and I’m not interested in experiencing that again, LOL.
In the cooler months, I tend to pair my wide leg pants with boots that have a slimmer profile: ankle boots (and even tall boots) that don’t add bulk to my feet. Wearing thick lugsole boots with an already dramatic pant is out of my millennial style comfort zone. They might feel or look like clown shoes to others, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this look. What boots are you wearing with your wide leg pants?
