What to Wear When You're Over Winter

Fashion trends to try: Cali demi-boot jeans + lugsole boots by Madewell | Boise style blog | Cotton Cashmere Cat Hair

It’s the end of January, and I’m officially OVER winter. I am thrilled that February is only a few short days away. I’m ready for the dreaded inversion to go away. I’m ready for blue skies and warmer weather (even temperatures in the 50s would feel downright tropical right now). February is still not one of my favorite months, but at least it’s short, and at least there’s usually a light at the end of the dreaded winter tunnel!

My day-to-day winter outfits have been relatively uninspiring lately, but I enjoyed how this one came together. I’ve been trying to mix things up when it comes to denim in particular. This outfit features a couple of trends I’ve been loving lately: lugsole boots (added to my wardrobe in fall 2021) and new slim demi-boot jeans, both by Madewell.

What to Wear When You’re Over Winter

My trick to dressing when I’m tired of winter and bored of my current outfits is to play around with my wardrobe! (The outfit shuffle feature in Stylebook is great for this if you don’t want to physically pull things out.) Added something new? Spend time trying out different outfits with that new item until you land on one that excites you and that you can’t wait to wear out.

I’ve been documenting my struggles with buying jeans in my new COVID size over on Instagram stories. It’s been quite a frustrating experience because I’ve loved Madewell jeans for years now and used to be a very consistent size in those jeans, and now it seems as though I’m anywhere between three different sizes depending on the jean style/fit. WHY.

Luckily, I have had success with my last two denim orders, and one of my new additions is this pair of slim Cali demi-boot jeans. The flare is definitely not as pronounced in this pair compared to my “regular” Cali demi-boot styles, so they look more like straight-leg jeans. Since I haven’t found a pair of straight leg jeans I like yet, I’m glad I found these!

I played up the trendiness of this outfit by adding my lugsole lace-up boots, which work perfectly with the jeans. And since I wore two newer items, I picked old standbys to complete the outfit: a textured cotton sweater (not quite as warm as wool or cashmere, but still nice—and not sheer), quilted parka, and wool baseball cap.

I love the mix of textures, neutrals, and color injected by the boots. It’s updated for 2022 while still feeling very much like me! Now back to my regularly scheduled boring winter outfits… (ha).
