Academic conference poster presentation outfit — Cotton Cashmere Cat Hair

A couple of months ago, I attended a very large academic/professional conference with researchers from all over the world and presented my research in a poster session. The conference itself is a long five days with thousands of poster and oral presentations. It's impossible to see everything! I usually get exhausted after only a couple of days. It's not easy to "science" all the time. ;) Still, it's a fun and invigorating environment, and I always enjoy learning a bit about other fields while I'm there (such as planetary science, which is totally what I would have studied if I was better at physics!).

This time, I was only there for a couple of days so I kept my suitcase really light (two tanks, one sweater, one nice sweatshirt, one skirt, one pair of pants, two pairs of shoes, and some accessories). This is the outfit I put together for the day of my poster presentation. It ended up dumping rain, so I actually wore my yellow Hunter rain boots, though I definitely would have worn these ankle boots if the weather had cooperated. It's obviously not ideal to wear bright yellow boots to present in, but the conference is fairly casual, and the attendees wear a wide variety of outfits.

Boots aside, I felt confident and put-together in this outfit. It's full of neutrals, but the speckled skirt and the asymmetrical sweatshirt add some interest. Of course, you'll find most people at conferences with a coffee in their hand. ;) My drink of choice is a chai tea latte, and I thought it was fitting to include it in my outfit shoot. #gradschool

My black Longchamp 'Le Pliage Neo' tote bag is my new best friend for conferences. I can stuff everything I could possibly need inside (fabric poster, computer and charger, notebooks, water, snacks, etc.), plus it doubles as one of my carry-on bags. It's an investment piece for sure, but I highly recommend it if you're looking for a roomy conference (or carry-on) bag!
