MATE the Label Reviews: Organic Cotton Classic Tee, Organic Thermal Boxy Crop, Organic Thermal Wide Leg Pant

In addition to MATE the Label’s lovely tencel cotton sleepwear, I also own a few other products, some of which have yet to make the blog. All of their products are made from organic materials in Los Angeles, which means that, yes, the prices are higher than other brands. But, you can definitely FEEL the quality in MATE’s products, which is why I love them so much! And everything holds up beautifully.

Below, I reviewed my MATE the Label organic cotton classic tee, organic thermal boxy crop, and organic thermal wide leg pant. You’ll find details on each garment, sizing information, my thoughts, and links to purchase your own!

For sizing reference, my current size is typically a small. I am borderline petite at 5’4” and have broad shoulders and long arms. I tend to size up in tops for extra room in the shoulders and length in the sleeves, but you’ll see that MATE’s thermal tops fit me best in a size XS.

My Thoughts

This is a such a great, classic white tee (as the name suggests)! Out of all of my MATE items, this tee is definitely the thinnest and feels a little more delicate. That said, it’s only slightly sheer (I’m wearing it with a nude-to-me bra that you can’t really see, but you can see the outline of my black leggings underneath). This tee drapes really nicely and has a really great relaxed fit. I’d size up if you want it looser to tie at the waist, or size down if you prefer a slimmer fit in your tees. I have not washed mine so I cannot comment on if it shrinks in the wash. It might, as some of my other organic cotton items have.

I would love this tee even more if it was offered in a cropped style! It’s just a little bit too long for my preference; I like my tees to hit at the top of my hip. I don’t think you can go wrong with this tee if you’re in need of a basic white tee, though, especially if you can snap it up on sale.

My Thoughts

As a petite (short) person, I find myself preferring to wear cropped tops so I don’t have to deal with the hassle of tucking a really long top. I absolutely love the organic thermal boxy crop by MATE the Label! The first one I purchased was the pretty ivory called bone. I added the sedona color next, and most recently, I added the jet black to my wardrobe (not pictured). It’s such an excellent staple that I can wear at any time of year.

Like their sleepwear, MATE’s organic cotton thermals are made of a thick fabric that is well-constructed and drapes beautifully. I was surprised that a size XS fits me perfectly with room to spare, so I would recommend sizing down if you want it to fit slimmer than it does on the model. I have broad shoulders, and you can see how the shoulder seams hit right at my shoulders. I don’t feel any tightness there. The arm length is also perfect. I haven’t noticed any change in the sizing after washing; of course, they stretch out a little bit with wear (moreso in the elbows) but overall I’m super happy with this top! (Obviously, since I own it in three colors now ha.)

My Thoughts

I loved these wide leg pants when I spotted them on the website! I love the style, and the “tobacco” color is absolutely gorgeous. I wish they still offered it. It matches almost perfectly with my cherry mahogany Mae drapey tee from ABLE (worn together in my recent Wear Your Closet Challenge)! I think it also looks great with the coordinating thermal boxy crop.

As much as I love these pants, they shrunk in the wash both in the width (especially around the waist/hips) and in length and now they don’t fit as well anymore! I definitely should have ordered them in a size M. (I did purchase a size XS at first and exchanged them for a small.) It’s kind of annoying when brands aren’t consistent across styles (I’m either an XS, S, or M depending on the garment as it turns out). I definitely recommend sizing up, especially if you’re like me and carry extra weight in your midsection or hips. If they fit too loose at first wear, they probably won’t after washing/drying.

They do feature a tie in the waistband to cinch if necessary but do NOT have pockets. Pockets would make them infinitely better. The thermal knit is exactly the same weight as the thermal boxy crop and so perfect for WFH days! I don’t find them to be particularly warm, so they work even in the summer.
