Moody Millennial Spring Outfit

Remember when I declared my spring 2021 uniform a couple of months ago? Here’s another iteration of that outfit featuring moody spring vibes and skinny jeans…because I’m a millennial.

A few weeks ago, I got some photos done by local photographer Maggie Grace as part of a fundraiser she’s doing for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I actually wasn’t planning on sharing these photos as an outfit post, but they turned out well, and I’m not totally ready to dive into posts from my trip just yet (because I took literally thousands of photos, lol), so here we are!

It’s weird to think that since we millennials are now solidly in our 30s, skinny jeans are the new mom jeans. Like, WHAT. I feel old! I tried resisting skinny jeans for so long in high school and now here I am, with a death grip on skinny jeans. They’re still my favorite denim silhouette; I haven’t found a pair of straight leg jeans I like on me. Straight leg denim looks so good on others so I’m hopeful I will find a pair eventually. I’m also a big fan of Madewell’s demi-boot jeans (as featured in my spring uniform).

I took this somewhat related Buzzfeed quiz and ended up will millennial, of course. Let me know if you got millennial or gen Z!

Anyway, since I wore this outfit to a proper photo shoot with a real photographer, here’s why I opted for this outfit that may or may not date me in a few years:

  • It’s spring, so my mind automatically goes to a lighter color palette.

  • The original backdrop (not shown here) was white/pink/peach, so I opted for an outfit color palette of ivory, light wash denim, and tawny brown to coordinate. Ask your photographer for backdrop colors or setting information if they don’t provide it upfront!

  • It was too chilly to bare my arms or my legs, hence the cardigan and jeans (though I did see people there in summery outfits—BRAVE!).

  • I bookended the outfit with the tawny brown floppy hat and boots. The hat can lean more autumnal, but with the ivory cardigan and light wash denim, it definitely feels more spring.

  • I selected an outfit that was easy to move in and comfortable to wear first. Priorities!

  • I tried to be as timeless as possible, but…yeah, I already lost with the skinny jeans LOL.

  • The breeze almost made my hat fly off; luckily, it can be adjusted so I was able to tighten it to my head!

I just wanted to wear something easy and as classic as possible! Turns out my outfit is mostly Madewell, but if it works, it works. This is pretty much the most boho I get, haha.
