I’ve mentioned in the past how January is my least favorite month of the year. The excitement of the holidays is over, the days are short, and the weather is cold and grey (and usually snowy). It can be a struggle for me to get through the month on a positive note. I tend to wear a lot of darker colors in the winter months, as evidenced here.

Over the past couple of years, I’ve figured out a few things that help me make the most of what’s usually the coldest and dreariest month of the year.

  • Wear bright colors / Not shown here, obviously, but I love a bright red sweater in the winter to boost my mood.

  • Slow down / So often, I want to dive right into making my home better and making myself better because of the “fresh start” a new year brings, but it’s better for my mental health to take it slow and not overcommit.

  • Indulge / I know that you’re supposed to eat healthy again after the holidays, and I do enjoy a delicious, healthy meal, but I still let myself have a few extra treats. Mostly because we end up with so many treats by the end of December…ha! I like to indulge with a nice face mask, too. :)

  • TV time / My go-to channels are HGTV, Bravo, and E!…but you know what else starts in January? The Bachelor! I know, I know. I honestly used to pride myself on the fact that I didn’t watch The Bachelor…and now I watch it (I have since Ben’s season). And Korri watches it with me. Honestly, Mondays are better because of The Bachelor. Even if I facepalm 10,000 times each episode.

  • College gymnastics / Sounds random, especially because I’m not a gymnast, but I honestly believe college gymnastics is the number one way I get through January (and February). It gives me something to look forward to every weekend (it’s my “football”)! If you love watching olympic gymnastics, you should definitely check out college gymnastics. There’s nothing more inspiring than powerful, badass women!

Even though, historically, I dread January, I don’t really hate it as much as I used to because I figured out how to get through it. What are your feelings on January? If you’re like me and dread January, what are the things that get you through it?
