July Style Sudoku Recap

July Style Sudoku: 16 items, 14+ outfits — Cotton Cashmere Cat Hair

I wrapped up my July style sudoku last Saturday, so here’s the recap! For two weeks, I wore one of 14 outfits put together with the 16 items in my sudoku above, in which every row, column, and corner is an outfit (plus the diagonals…and a couple of other places if you're feeling ambitious). If you’ve been reading for a few months, you know I love putting together style sudokus because they're an excellent opportunity for me to stretch my closet, try new combinations, and remind me how much I already own (and love!). I did not do a shopping freeze this month, but I did try to be more mindful of my clothing purchases and remember my wardrobe plan.

I put together a dark color palette for my first sudoku back in January, and then lightened it up for my spring sudoku in April. The summer version included more light colors to go with the season. I included a bunch of different colors this time but still leaned heavily on shades of blue and beige/tan/brown. I loved mixing in the surplus greens and pink sandals. Everything worked well together, and I was surprised to find myself enjoying the two monochrome outfits. I originally tried to arrange this so I wouldn’t be wearing the green tee and green pants together, but I couldn’t get it how I wanted with that arrangement so I stuck with this.

Summer is hard because it’s so hot that layering isn’t really a thing I enjoy doing, but this arrangement with the blazer and cardigan worked out because I spent 10 of the 14 days at my desk in my often-freezing-cold office. It was difficult to select the other two “accessories” because it is summer, so I went with a hat and pair of earrings. The hat was probably the least useful of the items; it was nice to have on the weekends, but it was unnecessary to wear to work. I’m glad I picked a variety of different bottoms so my outfits didn’t all look exactly the same. Overall, it was another successful sudoku!

I only have one more style sudoku to go this year—the fall version, which will be happening in October! It’s going to be here before I know it.

Below you’ll find all of my outfits and where they landed on the sudoku, a widget at the end where you can shop the exact or similar items I wore, and a blank sudoku so you can make your own! Head on over to the original posts for more photos and details: outfits 1-5, outfits 6-10, and outfits 11-14. (Or you can directly click on the outfit photo you’re interested in below!)

July Style Sudoku: Outfits 11–14

I wrapped up my July style sudoku this past weekend, and goodness, this one felt like it really flew by compared to my past sudokus (catch the first five outfits here and outfits 6-10 here). The final four outfits are detailed below, and my recap post will be published on Wednesday!

OUTFIT 11 • Wednesday, July 17th

July Style Sudoku: Outfit 11 — Cotton Cashmere Cat Hair

Today was another unexciting day at the office! Since it was going to be the warmest remaining work day of the week, I opted to wear my final skirt outfit. This is typically what I think of when I think of a more “professional” work outfit, so it’d be perfect to wear for a conference or networking event. At first, I wasn’t quite sure that I would like the color combination of the beige blazer with the brown flats in any of my style sudoku outfits, but I don’t think they look bad together. Of course, the true star of the show is miss Rosie. ;)

OUTFIT 12 • Thursday, July 18th

July Style Sudoku: Outfit 12 — Cotton Cashmere Cat Hair

It always happens that I get to the end of my sudoku and I realize I have to wear a couple of items in a row. It’s probably poor planning on my part, but I think some of it is the nature of the sudoku format. Since I didn’t want to wear my linen blazer two days in a row (I wore it on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday), I decided that my chambray shirt would have to be worn two days in a row. First up was my chambray with this look: a relatively casual work outfit with my straight leg crops, cream cardigan, and navy sandals. It worked, so that’s all I can ask for!

July Style Sudoku: Outfit 13 — Cotton Cashmere Cat Hair

I saved the second monochrome outfit for the last work day of my style sudoku. I’ve been wanting to pair my chambray shirt with my boyfriend jeans, but I couldn’t quite figure out how to wear them together in a relatively subtle way. Enter: the linen blazer…it helps to balance the look (and serve as an extra layer for the aggressive air conditioning). One of my coworkers complimented my outfit and the color palette, saying it was very calming. I have to agree; there is something about light blue and light tan/beige together that is pleasing to the eye.

OUTFIT 14 • Saturday, July 20th

July Style Sudoku: Outfit 14 — Cotton Cashmere Cat Hair

The last day! Korri and I didn’t have anything planned for Saturday, so we spent most of the day at home. We went for a walk by the river in the late afternoon, right when the air was hottest (of course, haha). I wore this entire outfit because my hat shaded me from the sun and I wanted to see how the sandals would feel after a decently long walk. (I normally would wear sneakers.) My feet weren’t killing me by the end, so that’s a good thing! I also didn’t experience any blisters. Woo!

I ended up changing into my navy sandals, losing the hat, and adding my navy Lilly Pulitzer sweater (not in the sudoku) for a walk to the stadium to stand outside the Garth Brooks concert. We tried to get tickets but the ticket office was long closed (I wasn’t surprised since Garth was on stage by the time we got there). I changed my outfit just in case we had been able to get in. His stage was set “in the round” with screens on all sides, and you could see them from outside the stadium, so we joined a couple hundred people outside and watched/listened. It was a great show! ;)

July Style Sudoku: Outfits 6–10

After today, there are only three more days of my style sudoku! Last Friday, I shared my first five outfits, and now I’m back with my second batch of outfits. As always, you can keep up in real time by checking out my Instagram stories (and I will eventually save them all to my Style Sudoku highlight).

OUTFIT 6 • Friday, July 12th

July Style Sudoku: Outfit 6 — Cotton Cashmere Cat Hair

Friday was HOT, so I broke out another skirt outfit. The tee is linen, and the skirt is a linen blend. I expected there to be heat at some point during these two weeks, so that’s why I picked multiple linen items for my sudoku! I have to be honest… It was a little weird wearing my hat inside my office, lol. I kept it on when I was at my desk but took it off when I was walking around. It’s definitely more suited for the outdoors. ;) Korri and I ended up going out to lunch, and I had my hat on but it was a little difficult to eat pho with a big hat getting in the way!

OUTFIT 7 • Saturday, July 13th

July Style Sudoku: Outfit 7 — Cotton Cashmere Cat Hair

Saturday started with a bike ride with my brother and his girlfriend to the farmer’s market. I didn’t wear this outfit because it would not have been comfortable for the ride, and I’m so glad I didn’t wear it because I sweat buckets. It was disgusting! I showered once we got back home and changed into this outfit to go out for happy hour. Since it was so hot, I ended up not wearing the cardigan out and just had it on at home (I’m the person that wears shorts and then curls up in a blanket on the couch because I’m cold, haha).

OUTFIT 8 • Sunday, July 14th

July Style Sudoku: Outfit 8 — Cotton Cashmere Cat Hair

Korri and I went out to brunch late on Sunday morning, and it was poised to be another warm day (story of our lives in July!). I kept cool with my linen tee and shorts. My wedge sandals dress this look up a little bit as far as Boise standards go. ;) I didn’t do much of anything else until heading out to the grocery store later in the evening. A gust front from a distant thunderstorm blew through and kicked up dust right as I was leaving the store, so it was fun trying to stay upright and keep dust out of my eyes while walking to the car carrying all the groceries. Haha! I was glad I didn’t wear my hat outfit!

OUTFIT 9 • Monday, July 15th

July Style Sudoku: Outfit 9 — Cotton Cashmere Cat Hair

I was supposed to be on a week-long work trip starting today, but it was cancelled at the last minute. That probably worked out better as far as doing my sudoku goes! I’ve worn this blazer and shirt combination before so I knew it would work well here, even if the chambray shirt is a little warm for 90-degree heat. I like how this outfit isn’t matchy-matchy in the slightest: all the colors go together, but none of them are exactly the same, and it keeps things interesting. I realized that I’m not a huge fan of wearing long tops with these pants because I feel like my legs look shorter than usual…

OUTFIT 10 • Tuesday, July 16th

July Style Sudoku: Outfit 10 — Cotton Cashmere Cat Hair

I really like tucking this blouse into my boyfriend jeans, but it did not look this good in real life. Ha! The blouse didn’t stay tucked in the back for some reason, so I left it as a half-tuck. It’s a pain to get it just right, and using the restroom during the day didn’t help matters any. Wah-wah. I love pairing these jeans with these sandals, though. I wore this outfit with the hat (which I actually kept on for most of the day and got multiple comments on from coworkers…) because I got a massage and my hair always looks pretty gross after getting a head massage.
